Back in the 1980s, well before organic and natural products had made any sort of splash in the United States, Herbaceutical’s founders were so inspired by the availability of natural products in Europe that they decided to bring nontoxic hair color formulations from Italy to the United States, where they were not yet available. They developed Naturcolor, an herbal-based permanent hair color gel for chemically sensitive people, well ahead of the revolution in natural hair and body care that would come years later.

Naturcolor has been handcrafted with care in small batches – never mass-produced – from the finest Italian pigments since the beginning, and it always will be. We use these pigments because we believe no one else in the world pays more attention to quality and detail than the Italians who make ours.

We blend these pigments with plants and herbs like burdock, gotu kola, and hops that have been used for thousands of years to keep hair strong and supple and prevent hair loss and rich shea butter to nourish hair and leave it feeling silky smooth.
We make batches weekly, so you know you’re always coloring your hair with formulations made from the freshest possible ingredients.
Naturcolor contains no ammonia, resorcinol, or parabens, so you can use it over and over again without worrying about damaging your hair. And with 31 colors to mix and match, you could have a new look every week (if you wanted).

And of course, our products are cruelty-free.

Thirty years ago, these ideas were pretty radical. Today, they’re pretty mainstream. More and more people understand that what you take into and put on your body matters, and they’re eating organic and seeking out natural alternatives to chemical-laden body care products.

Recently, we were featured in Whole Foods Magazine as a top-seller in the hot anti-aging market, and we’re proud to offer an herbal-based means of covering gray hair for people who may be coloring for the first time.

We’re also a lot more than an anti-aging product. We offer a healthier hair color alternative that won’t make your eyes water and will leave your hair supple and shining like satin.

We’ve come a long way since that vision born in Europe – and we’ve done that by sticking to our roots.
